Cotswold Cowl

NEW - Available as a PDF in my Ravelry, Etsy and LoveCrafts shops!

A bit of inspiration behind the name: Cotswold Cowl

Last year I designed an end of year gift to all of you for your kind support of me, and it was an easy to make, full of texture, and now it’s finally on the blog! The Cotswold Cowl! You can make it in your favorite colors and then bundle up - be cozy!

“Please enjoy this gift from me to you! Each and every pattern purchase, blog view and Kit purchase you’ve ever made means me so much to me! This pattern is a quick thank you for all your love and support of my designs through out the year with my Kits with Lion Brand Yarn, new design debuts, and blog posts, of which none of it would be possible without your support! ” - Angie (now more from me below… haha!)

NOTE: 2023 Temperature Cowl Instructions included after the pattern instructions.

A classic and elegant reversible linen texture adds drape and warmth to this Cowl. It easily drapes around your neck to keep you warm and cozy.

If you ask me, I think making cowls, scarfs, anything like that has a sweet spot in how it wears, how it settles around your neck, length, width and how it combats the wind and cold! They’re tricky to make! Too short, not wide enough, too long, the stitch is stiff, etcetera etcetera...

When I say I love this one, I mean I was so excited I designed a longer version for this year! I loved this so much I decided to create a line around it. I have an infinity scarf out now, and I plan to add a sweater and Cardi into the mix soon! The other cool thing is can be a quick present ( I first made these as gifts for my kiddo’s school teachers), market stock, idle busy work but I wanna relax too, or school car line waiting all over it! It was a breeze to work up! SO, I really hope you love it, I think it’s just perfect!

Cotswold Infinity Scarf on Etsy

Beginner, Bulky Weight, Crochet

As with my Infinity Scarf version, these are made using Hue+Me by Lion Brand Yarn. This yarn is a bulky-bulky! It’s light as can be which is great, because even with the cowl’s size, it’s light and airy on the neck, but the bulky yarn adds so much warmth! The palette to chose from is epic, so have fun and pick your favorites!!

GAUGE

**Please check your gauge before you start this Pattern to match the finished measurements for this pattern:

It’s best to make your swatch slightly bigger than what the pattern states it should measure so you can measure it in the center of your square, getting an accurate reading. You can do this by adding 2 additional stitches and work 2 additional rows.  Do not count the first and last stitch in your measurement or the first and last row.

Hook Size Suggestions:

  • If your swatch has less stitches, swatch again using a smaller hook.

  • If your swatch has more stitches, swatch again using a larger hook.

2023 Temperature Cowl Instructions

If you didn’t know, this idea of making a temperature version was even an option, well it is!  This is a 2023 project I just started, please visit my blog for all the info if you’re interested.  I have details of how to do it, how to break up your week temps, cool gift ideas and all sorts of info on the in-depth creating of your quick year long project!

For the temperature version, your beginning chain row and Row 1 will be in the Color A yarn you designated to use as your month color. At the start of every month we will work 1 row in Color A, to help show a separation and break up the months. All other rows are worked as stated on the blog outline to correspond with whichever color you attributed to that weekly average temp (1 row).

See below:

 52 weeks x 1 row = 52 rows. 12 months x 1 row = 12 rows (a total of 64 rows)

(see Blog, there is a last week in Dec with only one day in it so I didn’t add it in)

Our Pattern has a total of 65 rows.  For the remaining row, work it in your Color A month row to show a year end separation to the cowl. Or, another idea is to a pick a special day in the year and at that time add a special color row to make up for that one row.
