Nottingham Hat
I love how easy these hats are and how comfrtable they are for everyone in the whole fam. They work up in a 1x1 ribbing, which travels easy in a bag as you make it, if you want it slouchy you can easily add more length or for a flip up brim.
The other great thing about this hat is it has a shaped crown. The decreases are invisible too so you don’t see the change in texture, you just see the crown take shape until you’ve eventually finished a gradual decrease. That means it can be pomless and you won’t have a big crinkle, just a flush fit to your head.
A classic and elegant 1x1 texture is always my fave as you may have noticed too! My mum always made them for us growing up, and I still love the simplicity and fit of them, so I love working variations of this classic stitch combo!

This hat is worked bottom up and in the round.
It’s ideal gauge is for the bulkier of bulky yarns. Not all bulky yarns are the same and this one is best when used with those bulkier versions.
A total stitch count for the Round will follow any inc/dec ie. - (10 sts)
The texture is worked using a simple knit and purl stitch and has invisible decreases at the crown.
Steam block when done.
GAUGE
**Please check your gauge before you start this pattern to match the finished measurements for this pattern:
It’s best to make your swatch slightly bigger than what the pattern states it should measure so you can measure it in the center of your square, getting an accurate reading. You can do this by adding 2 additional stitches and work 2 additional rows. Do not count the first and last stitch in your measurement or the first and last row.
Needle Size Suggestions:
If your swatch has less stitches, swatch again using a smaller needle.
If your swatch has more stitches, swatch again using a larger needle.
