Do you remember me blogging about this last year? If not that’s okay, let me retell you what a cool event this is! Lion brand has curated 15 new designs to be kitted by 15 designers that you probably already know and love on Instagram or from their Blogs. Its the perfect time and moment to kick start our crafting and stir the ideas of what to make next as Spring and Summer creeps up on us. For the opening weekend these kits excitingly always have a SALE that can’t be beat. 30% off yarn, yea, we will take it! Plus like all my kits, they end up making the pattern free which is a win win!!

“ I just wanted to do another quick thank you for all your love and support of my designing. I am very excited to announce this design is available FREE on my Blog and as a Kit thanks to Lion Brand Yarn. Each and every Kit purchase you’ve ever made means me collaborating more and more with a company and yarn I find so dear to me. I can’t even begin to add up all the projects I’ve made through the years with their yarn. My latest combo is yet again 2 yarn lines they’ve come up with that I find so brilliant and I encourage you to try. Order the kit, pick your combo, and happy stitching. If you reach out to me via email or IG, I’m happy to help give my thoughts on colorways to help you pick your perfect kit!” - Angie, now more from me below haha

It always seems to naturally happen as soon as the weather warms up outside, the skies drip their last bit of rain and the snow dries up that the lighter, cottony and weightless yarns seem to end up on our hooks and needles. I know for me by the time January rolls around I start feeling the need for these yarns and day dreaming cheery designs with pops of color. This was for sure what happened to me this year. We had quite the rainy and dreary winter and I by mid January I was eagerly waiting for the days when I could step outside, feel the warmth of the sunshine on my face and take my kids to the beach and have the cold water touch our toes (honestly it’s too cold so by the time it hits my toes I’m good and cooled off haha).

Normally I am quite the neutral lover. I always find a sense of calm as soon as they are on my needles but something happened to me this year where I didn’t quite get the same joy.

Then one day, I was so inspired by one of my kiddos. She has a love for rainbows, rainbows everything, even sprinkles on cupcakes as soon as we bake them hehe. I immediately felt a joy from the infectious the cheerful colors every time I saw one. I set out that day to sketch and make her a beautifully colorful throw. I knew she would love it. I would love the joy of working with these tones and seeing her face when I gifted it to her.

I wanted to make the throw big enough to last for years to come and there was plenty of yarn in the Mandala skein to do just that. Finding these skeins on the Lion Brand website was very easy because I like to search by yarn weights when I’ve decide on a project to make.

I also know with the temp where we live, and with Spring and Summer right around the corner, I wanted to pair it with their lovely new cotton that had just come out. I heard and read nothing but lovely things about this yarn (and boy were those sentiments accurate, its gorgeous to work with). I loved how fading in the neutral Pima Cotton yarn broke up the bright colors a bit to create a beautiful prismatic fade and neutral vibe to this timeless colorful palette.

The easy repeats in texture would also make adjusting the size to fit your needs so easy to do too. You can easily create a baby size 38x38, add cast on sts to work a bed sized blanket etc.

By the time I finished this project I realized I still have a love for my neutrals but sprinkling in some cheerful color here and there is definitely what I see in my crafting future. I think yarn needs and preferences sway with your moods and how a project makes you feel and I’m looking so forward to see what yarns I start pairing up with certain projects going forward.

I couldn’t recommend getting this kit more btw. Could you sub other yarns, absolutely! Would it be beautiful? Absolutely! But there is something so incredible about these yarn combos. Right off the bat I’d like to mention I had not extra ends to weave in with the Mandala yarn. This skein has hundreds of yards in it and it went from start to finish on this great sized throw. It’s not tiny! I also thoroughly enjoyed working with this Pima Cotton. It’s a new yarn out with Lion Brand Yarn and they hit this one out of the park!!! It is wonderful to knit with. It is perfect for a baby blanket softness with the lightweightness and easy of care that cotton has. My kiddos are very sensitive to the feel and softness of yarns and they’re head over heels for this throw. IT IS SOFT!!

Here is just a few more color combos that I also tossed around in my head and still have that bright cheery feel of Summer. P.S. they also have shades PERFECT for Fall and Winter. So you can make this again and again as wonderful gifts throughout the year.

Neutrals with that POP of color!!

Look at the flow and drape of this!! It’s squishy, it’s stretchy, it can easy drape across two people for movie nights or school drop off on those cold mornings BRRRR!! I hope this will be a new favorite in your house as it is in mine.

DON’T NEED THE YARN? I got your covered. I have an easy to follow and formatted PDF Pattern in my Ravelry, Lovecrafts and Etsy Shops.

  6. Steam Block when done.

OPTIONS:

  1. To change the color order on your Baby Mandala skein you could wind each color into separate skeins and join them in the order you’d prefer.

GAUGE

**Please check your gauge before you start this Pattern to match the finished measurements:

It’s best to make your swatch slightly bigger than normal for large projects like Blankets and Throws. Make a square approx 10”x10” to get a measurement with weight affecting the stitches/rows.  Do not count the first and last stitch in your measurement or the first and last row. Measure it in the center of your square to get an accurate reading.

Needle Size Suggestions:

  • If your swatch has less stitches, swatch again using a smaller needle.

  • If your swatch has more stitches, swatch again using a larger needle.
